Holding open seminar

To commemorate the 10th anniversary of our study club in 2005, we hosted an open seminar at the main hall of the Sasakawa Memorial Hall, where our members themselves served as lecturers and presented cases in a format that opened our regular study meeting presentations to the public. Thereafter, we have shared our achievements every five years. In 2010, we held the 15th anniversary open seminar at Kokuyo Hall, and in 2015, we likewise held the 20th anniversary open seminar again at Kokuyo Hall.

20th anniversary open seminar

Day 1

Roth Study Club Japan 20th Anniversary open seminar was held on 11th&12th October 2015 at Kokuyo Hall.
The open seminar is finally about to begin. The opening remarks will be delivered by Dr. Kazumi Ikeda, our representative.
Offering greetings to the participants in front of Dr. Roth’s portrait, with an introduction of attendees from Korea.
Dr. Junichiro Nagayama, serving as the moderator for Day 1, introduces the first speaker.
The morning session moves on to the theme of diagnosis. The first speaker is Dr. Satoshi Adachi, who will give a lecture on the philosophy.
The presentation title is:“Diagnosis Based on the Temporomandibular Joint (Diagnostic Concepts and Skills), and Facial Diagnosis.”
Next is Dr. Yoshihiro Nakajima
The presentation title is:“Approach to Treatment Planning from Diagnosis: Priorities and Recognition of the Vertical Dimension.”
After a break, three case presentations will follow. The first speaker is Dr. Satoshi Sakai.
The presentation title is:“Skeletal Open Bite with TMD Managed by Vertical Control of the Molars.”
Next is Dr. Motoyasu Taguchi
The presentation title is:“Angle Class II Division 1 Case with CO–CR Discrepancy.”
The final speaker of the morning session on diagnosis is Dr. Akira Kawamura.
The presentation title is:“Open Bite Case with Osteoarthritis of the Temporomandibular Joint.”
Special thanks to Dr. Masashi Saito, who served as the recorder. Most of the photos on this page were taken by Dr. Saito. With skills on par with a professional, he even went so far as to prepare new equipment specifically for this seminar. Thank you for the wonderful photographs.

The afternoon session focuses on mechanics. The first speaker is Dr. Hidetoshi Shirai, who will give a lecture on the philosophy.
The presentation title is:“Mechanics Used in the Roth Philosophy.”
This is followed by a lecture on the philosophy by Dr. Tateshi Hirakita.
The presentation title is:“Vertical control”
After a break, three case presentations focusing on mechanics will follow. The first speaker is Dr. Hiroshi Takeshita.
The presentation title is:“Extraction Case of Maxillary Protrusion with Mandibular Retrusion Treated Orthodontically after Stabilizing the Mandibular Position with a Splint.”
Next is Dr. Koichi Misaki.
The presentation title is:“Hidden Class II and Asymmetric Case.”
The final presentation of Day 1 is by Dr. Yasoo Watanabe.
The presentation title is:“A Case Treated with Vertical Control Using Anchorage Screws.”

Reception

The reception was held at Pappare Napoli, an Italian restaurant just a few minutes from the seminar venue. Participants are arriving in small groups.

The poster board session, which stands alongside the presentations as an equally important format, requires condensing clinical cases into a limited space. Preparing these posters is truly a time-consuming process. We sincerely thank all the doctors who participated in the poster board session for their cooperation.

The morning session focuses on orthognathic surgery. The first speaker is Dr. Takehiro Hirano, who will present on the philosophy in collaboration with his partnering oral and maxillofacial surgeon. The lecture is led by Dr. Hirano.
The presentation title is: “Treatment Planning for Orthognathic Surgery with Consideration of the Temporomandibular Joint and Facial Esthetics.”
Next is Dr. Kazutoshi Kamei from the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Reconstruction, Yokohama Rosai Hospital. His lecture includes a wealth of clinical cases.
The presentation title is: “Improving the Accuracy of Maxillary Positioning and Nasal Tip Esthetics in Bimaxillary Surgery.”

Day 2: Dr. Hidetoshi Shirai, who serves as the moderator for the morning session, introduces the next speaker.
Two orthognathic surgery cases will be presented. The first report is by Dr. Kyoko Kato.
The presentation title is: “A Surgical Case with Improved Occlusion and Facial Esthetics.”
Next is Dr. Noriyo Uchiyama
The presentation title is: “A Growing Patient Case of Maxillary Anterior Protrusion with Temporomandibular Disorder: A Case Treated with Two Staged Surgeries.”
The final presentation in this session is by Dr. Tadanori Furuya.
The presentation title is: “Three-Dimensional Changes of the Temporomandibular Joint During Orthognathic Surgery.”
After a break, the next theme focuses on cases presented by young orthodontists. The first speaker is Dr. Masako Komatsu.
The presentation title is: “Report on a Lecture by Dr. Laura Iwasaki.”
This presentation summarizes the key points of a special lecture by Dr. Laura Iwasaki, delivered at the Roth Study Club International held immediately after the American Association of Orthodontists meeting in May. We sincerely appreciate the effort involved in distilling such a highly complex topic.
Next is Dr. Kazumi Ikeda
The presentation title is: “Orthodontic Treatment with Consideration of Disc Position.”
Next is a case presentation by Dr. Shigeru Tanaka.
The presentation title is: “How to Address Temporomandibular Joint Problems in Childhood.”
The final presentation of the two-day meeting is by Dr. Masaru Sakai.
The presentation title is:“A Mixed Dentition Early Phase Case of Maxillary Protrusion with Bone Resorption Observed in the Superior Aspect of the Right Mandibular Condyle.”
Dr. Yoshihiro Nakajima, who serves as the moderator for the afternoon session of Day 2, proceeds to introduce the closing remarks.
